Stories That Moved Us

"Museum Tales" reminded me that the objects in our museums carry voices — voices of ancestors who shaped the world long before it was written down. This story gave those voices back to us.

"Legend Never Lie" is a powerful reminder that our oral traditions are not folklore — they are living history. Every young African should read this story and feel proud of where they come from.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

SEDD represents the values of Storytelling, Education, Documentation, and Development in Africa — guiding all our programmes and initiatives.

"Flipping the Script" means challenging harmful, incomplete, or external narratives about Africa by centring African voices, lived experiences, languages, and cultural memory.

We focus on stories rooted in African culture, history, values, imagination, and everyday lived experiences — told in ways that affirm dignity, identity, and creativity.

Young Africans — particularly students and emerging storytellers between the ages of 12 and 25 — are encouraged to participate in our submission programmes.

Submitted stories are reviewed and judged by our editorial panel. Selected works may be published, printed, digitised, or adapted into formats such as e-books, animations, or learning resources, and distributed freely.

Sign up through the volunteer form on our website. Opportunities include editorial support, community engagement, storytelling facilitation, research, and programme coordination.

You can support our work through donations or sponsorships via the Donate page. Contributions directly fund storytelling programmes, printing, distribution, and youth engagement activities.
